16/03/2023Enhanced Natural Realities and Feminist Sci-Fi: Sónar+D Lisboa 2023 programme unveiled

Sónar+D - the international meeting of art, science, and digital culture - returns to Sónar Lisboa in 2023. From Friday 31st March to Sunday 2nd April, Estufa Fria in Parque Eduardo VII will be the site for an immersive exhibition by Lisbon creative studio Entangled Others. ‘Sediment Nodes’ places screens throughout the greenhouse, inviting viewers to take a deeper look into the intertwined nature of human and non-human lifeforms. For Sónar+D Lisboa 2023, local experimental musician Clothilde has been commissioned to create a special soundtrack for the installation.

On Friday and Saturday evening, the same venue will also welcome a pair of live AV performances. Friday’s performance of META AV by CLON + Ana Quiroga is a real-time video game simulation with a live soundtrack, inspired by cyberpunk aesthetics and feminist science fiction narratives. On Saturday, afrofuturist R&B artist GLOR1A uses augmented reality and digital technology for her participative performance ‘I Choose Not To Die’, which has been created in collaboration with Canadian artist Frances Adair.

At the foot of Parque Eduardo VII, off Marques De Pombal, Plaça de Barcelona, an interactive installation organised by the Barcelona City Council will set up shop for the weekend. Starting on Friday 31st March at Midday, it will host three days of activities, conferences and roundtables focusing on the links between the two cities and their emerging tech sectors.

Both the exhibition and the performances will be accessible free of charge to Sónar Lisboa 2023 ticket-holders throughout the weekend. Non-ticket-holders can pay the standard entrance fee for the Estufa Fria to visit the exhibition and experience the performances (subject to capacity).
