In just a few years, Dengo Club has become one of Lisboa’s most vital parties. The project - run by Saint Caboclo, Soya Marega, Banu, and Catarina de Carvalho - has injected a vital dose of colour and queerness into the city’s nightlife - which is why we had to invite them for a stage takeover at Sónar Lisboa this year. SonarMix 061, recorded by residents Banu and Saint Caboclo - serves as a sonic manifesto, linking their Moroccan, Angolan and Brazilian influences. 

South-to-south connections dominate: the mix opens with a thumping slice of Lebanese dabke, before they stack deadly baile funk cuts next to frenetic kuduro rhythms. They also find room to explore the deeper, sexier side of house and techno, showing how classic ghetto house has directly influenced a new wave of producers from Latin America and beyond. It’s the perfect prelude to their takeover of outdoor stage SonarVillage at Sónar Lisboa on Saturday, where they’re joined by a live set from rising Galician-Brazilian artist Lua de Santana and moonshine collective mainstay San Farafina. We can’t wait.
