Inspired by Afrofuturism and her own São Toméan ancestry, multidisciplinary artist XEXA creates deeply personal soundscapes using a variety of instruments and techniques, from woodwind instruments and her own voice to modular synthesisers and field recordings. A former jewellery and art student, her music buzzes with fragile sounds and microscopic details. Her debut album on Lisbon’s famed Príncipe label, Vibrações de Prata, builds on the ‘sonic diary’ she recorded and released in 2021, an ethereal blend of modern sound design and echoes of tradition and heritage. One of the most unique and original live performers at Sónar Lisboa 2024.
