There’s a new fox in town. Following in the footsteps of first generation batida producers like Marfox and Niggafox, prodigal young producer Vanyfox is revitalising the sound that has defined contemporary Portuguese electronic music over the past decade. Splitting his time between Paris and Lisbon, he connects the Angolan rhythms of batida with elements borrowed from the global afrobeats scene. Inspired by Parisian artists like Bameo Yendé, his tracks marry the urgency of batida with the sound of the Afro-parisian underground. His latest album Sonho Azul showcases his unique sound: laidback, insistent, rhythmically complex yet instantly accessible. One to watch at Sónar Lisboa 2024.
