A next generation junglist

Growing up in the North of England, Nia Archives listened to jungle - alongside dub, reggae, dancehall and UK hip hop - with her grandmother. Now aged 24, she’s revitalising the 30 year old genre, one amen break at a time. Breakthrough EP Forbidden Feelingz offered a taste of her potential, gorgeous vocal melodies over skittering breakbeats, but it was on last year’s Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against tha Wall that she found her voice (literally). Over six tracks that show her talent as a singer, lyricist and songwriter, she opens up, paring back the intensity of the production a little in favour of half-spoken, half-sung confessionals about love, life and nights out. Pull up to her set at Sónar 2024, and see why jungle was always just as emotional as it was massive.
