Intercultural dance music
Born in Humabo, Angola, and raised on the outskirts of Lisbon, Pedro Coquenão grew up between cultures. This artist of a thousand trades has developed his work as a musician and producer under the name Batida, performing with a mixer and a microphone to build an intercultural musical universe. His first album, Batida, mixed contemporary dance music with Angolan tracks from the 70s, while his most recent album, Neon Colonialismo, is a reflection on politics, music and history, featuring collaborations from across the lusophone musical diaspora, from Branko and Poté to Dj Dolores, Bonga and Mayra Andrade.
