The word icon is overused, but Yen Sung deserves the label. In the 1990s, she blazed a path for women in music in Portugal, whilst simultaneously bringing electronic music to the country. A long-time resident of legendary Lisbon club Lux Frágil, the depth of her musical knowledge is without parallel, and she effortlessly switches between genres, styles and moods in the same set. ‘Versatile’ doesn’t really cut it as a descriptor: from her beloved house and techno through to hip-hop, funk, R&B and disco.
