The latest star to emerge from Belgium’s rich seam of electronic musicians and DJs, Charlotte de Witte’s ascent to the world’s biggest stages has been meteoric, to say the least. Aged 17,
she took her mother’s advice and focused solely on music - leading to her winning a competition to open Belgium’s Tomorrowland festival in 2011, performing under the alias ‘Raving George’. 4 years later she decided to drop the male alter ego and perform under her real name: her rise since has been stratospheric.
Still only 29, the Ghent-born DJ and producer’s stakhanovite work ethic - the ‘no sleep mindset’ as she used to call it - is matched only by her prowess as a performer and producer.
At Sónar Lisboa 2022, expect a hypnotic set of lean, acid-flecked techno: as deep as the
Mariana Trench, delivered with atypical razor-sharp focus.
